Gastroenterology Is Number One Journal in the Field
By impact factor, the AGA Institute's flagship journal Gastroenterology maintained its number one position among 50 journals as the most highly cited journal in the field of digestive disease. In addition, Gastroenterology is also first in the field among readers. According to a recent readership survey, Gastroenterology publishes the best research on digestive disease and significantly impacts research and clinical care in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology. Over 90 percent of readers selected Gastroenterology as one of the top four journals they must receive on a monthly basis, and most respondents would choose to be published in Gastroenterology over any other journal in the field.
In cooperation with Elsevier Science, Inc., and the AGA Institute, Research USA issued the survey last March as part of the journal's ongoing effort to evaluate and meet the needs of its readership. Nearly 420 surveys were completed by readers who primarily described themselves as physicians serving in office-based patient care and clinical medicine settings.
The survey results also showcase the value of Gastroenterology. Over eighty percent of readers report that Gastroenterology keeps them abreast of scientific developments and provides them with consistently high-quality articles. Readers also state that the journal provides them with practical, clinically useful information. Additionally, readers give the journal top scores for overall reputation, organization, and physical quality.
The success of the journal is attributable to editor-in-chief, Anil K. Rustgi, MD, division chief of gastroenterology and T. Grier Miller professor of medicine and genetics at the University of Pennsylvania, and his distinguished team of associate editors. Readers surveyed gave high marks to Dr. Rustgi and his board of editors for their commitment to publishing the best basic and clinical research in the field.
Michael Camilleri, MD, AGAF, chair of the AGA Institute Publications Committee stated, "The commitment to excellence of the current board of editors, and also the strength of prior editors' legacies have secured the journal's position as a primary resource for physician investigators and clinicians who strive to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of digestive diseases."
