Burden of Digestive Diseases in the United States Part III: Liver, Biliary Tract, and Pancreas

This third of 3 articles addresses the burden in the United States from diseases of the liver, biliary tract (including gallbladder), and pancreas. The first article concerned summary data for all digestive diseases and selected upper gastrointestinal diseases. The second article addressed endoscopic procedures and diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract. Each article extracted significant digestive disease data from “The Burden of Digestive Diseases in the United States” report, which was compiled to support the efforts of the National Commission on Digestive Diseases.1 The full report is available at wwwz.niddk.nih.gov/AboutNIDDK/ReportsAndStrategicPlanning.
