Burden of Digestive Diseases in the United States Part II: Lower Gastrointestinal Diseases

This second of 3 articles addresses procedures and diseases of the lower GI tract. The first article concerned summary data for all digestive diseases and selected upper GI diseases. The third article will address diseases of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Each article extracts significant digestive disease data from the “The Burden of Digestive Diseases in the United States” report, which was compiled to support the efforts of the National Commission on Digestive Diseases.1 The full report is available at www.niddk.gov.
